“Reading and writing and the preservation of language and its forms and the kind of eloquence and the kind of beauty which the language is capable of is terribly important to the human beings because this is connected to thought.”—Iris Murdoch
“If the American woman has learned anything from her, she feels, it is that she can be a woman and live a man’s life: she can be on her own and never be lonely, she can care about money, she can have all the lovers she pleases, she can marry or not marry, she can start a business and wear a dress, she can be truly free.”—… about DVF
Inspired by Amy Thomas’ little movement on her blog God I Love Paris, I’ve decided to start my own rendition of Vegan Mondays. Vegetarian Weekdays, here we go!
It’s not so much a diet as it is an evaluation and reinvention of my current lifestyle; living away from home, university, has been hard. Temptations are rampant - unhealthy foods, snacking (because in college, boredom is synonymous to hunger), insomnia, stress, crazy weekends, etc. Not only does it show physically (I’ve actually maintained the same weight - no freshman 15 for me! - but I just don’t feel as good as I did over the summer when I danced all the time). You are what you eat, after all.
Say hello to Vegetarian Weekdays! Making this a five day thing seems a bit ambitious, but what can I say - I’m an Aries. All, or nothing. Weekdays - work work work. I need to eat healthy in order to keep up with everything! I am, however, leaving weekends for a bit more indulgence. If you know what I mean.
I’m no PETA member, nor am I morally against eating meat (animal cruelty, however, when livestock are bred to be slaughtered is unforgivable!). Fruits & veggies have less chemicals/hormones/etc. versus poultry - and therefore is healthier. I’m not really a meat person anyway; I prefer seafood to red meats and even chicken.
Hop along the bandwagon if you’d like! I’ll be keeping track of my regimen here - as a food diary of sorts - since it seems irrelevant to ABC.
So so far today…
+ lots of lemon water, yum!
+ 2 cups of coffee, with 2 packs of raw sugar each
+ salad (a handful of mixed greens, green peppers, mushroom, red onion, loads of broccoli, a sprinkling of feta cheese, & parmesan caesar salad)
+ 2 petit of pizza (pepper, onion, cheese; I picked off all the pepperoni & sausage like a lady…)
