It is okay to not initially understand why something is oppressive. There is nothing inherently wrong with not knowing something. This society is not prone to teaching you. In fact, it encourages oppressive behaviors. That is why it is so important to take time to educate yourself about these problematic issues.

“I’m also a feminist because I like to fuck, and I resent everything and everyone that would make that a secret shame. I fuck not to make marriages or babies but simply to fuck, and I am sick and fucking tired of the government and beer ads and my friends and fucking Cosmopolitan telling me there’s something wrong with that.” —The Pervocracy: Full Frontal Feminism.  (via filigrees)

“Patriarchy is not men. Patriarchy is a system in which both women and men participate. It privileges, inter alia, the interests of boys and men over the bodily integrity, autonomy, and dignity of girls and women. It is subtle, insidious, and never more dangerous than when women passionately deny that they themselves are engaging in it.” —Ashley Judd (via friedarose)

“Since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it’s time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women”
—Tupac Shakur (via friedarose)
